AAIHS COVID-19 Relief Grants

The African American Intellectual History Society (AAIHS) is pleased to announce that we are offering modest grants of $250 for graduate students and contingent faculty who are facing financial emergencies because of COVID-19. All members of AAIHS who are currently enrolled in graduate school or working in higher education in a non-tenure-track/tenured position (i.e. adjuncts, visiting lecturers, and postdoctoral fellows) are eligible to apply. Recipients of the grant may use the funds to address any personal or professional expense. Our goal is to provide assistance to members of the organization–especially those in higher education–who could benefit from some financial assistance during this challenging time.

We invite graduate students and contingent faculty to apply for grants to help meet unexpected COVID-19 related expenses. These include, but are not limited to, overdue bills, housing assistance, emergency childcare, and personal debts. To apply for a grant, please complete this form no later than Friday, May 15, 2020 at 11:59PM EST. The AAIHS board will promptly review all submissions and notify all recipients via email during the following week. These emergency grants are made possible through the generosity of our members and supporters.

If you are a tenure-track/tenured faculty member (or otherwise employed) and would like to support our efforts, please consider donating to the organization. We also encourage you to visit the new AAIHS online store, which features the items we displayed at this year’s conference (i.e. mugs, tote bags and pens). The funds we raise through these sales will be used to support AAIHS awards and fellowships (including the COVID-19 relief grants).

Please submit any questions or inquiries to the organization via our contact form.
